This place has been around a long time. Long before Nanjing road was a hyper commercial pedestrian street. This is where the locals go.

This restaurant has been here in Shanghai for a very long time, and it's an old family favorite. They're famous for their river shrimp, eel dishes, roast meats, and jiuniang yuanzi. And it's actually not really Cantonese but rather Shanghainese-Cantonese cuisine. Everything is done exquisitely well, with lots of attention to detail.

One can experience a truly pleasant ambiance at the Sunya. In terms of cuisine, it is truly exceptional and genuine, complemented by exemplary service. The menu offers a wide array of dishes, and our attentive and well-informed server provided valuable guidance regarding our selections. Furthermore, the prompt delivery of our meals to the table was noteworthy, accompanied by impeccable presentation and flavors that exceeded our expectations.

Extremely authentic Cantonese (Hong Kong) food. We visited with some locals and it was one of their favorites. In order to get to the restaurant we had to enter the lobby from East Nanjing road and take the elevator to the third floor. I was told the restaurant occupies several floors of the building. None of the staff spoke any English but our local friends did all of the talking. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was great. The restaurant was very clean and all of the food was well prepared. You eat the food family style so you order a bunch of different dishes for everyone to share. This is a great way to try out several different types of new food.

Visited alone but guided to a very big round table with around 8-10 chairs.staffs were kind but they do not speak English. English menus were available. Will be great if there's any menu in English or with pictures!
