36Highly recommended. Free entry and great insights about the past and future planning of this amazing city.
Interesting exhibition on the history and ideal future of urban planning in Shanghai. Tickets are free which you can pick up outside the entrance at the reception - you'll need to show your passport. Some of the exhibits are visually stunning, although a lot of the info is only available in Chinese, so you may get more out of the experience with the audio guide.
Definitely worth a visit to understand China’s and Shanghai’s roadmap for 2030 and 2050 as well as a good dose of Chinese propaganda. Lots of innovation planned without much scientific backing. Rent the audio guide and plan on two hours to be able to view each exhibit which spans several floors.
Best advice is to start from the top and make yourself down, faster to cover as The Ground and First Floor has nothing much to offer just pictures but the 3 & 4 Floors were amazing models and interactive areas. Do not miss early 1900s themed hidden alley underneath the SUPE Building, can be accessed via the gates next to the steps leading towards the SUPE entry/ticket area.
Sehr interessant und ein beeindruckendes Modell von Shanghai. Ein Besuch lohnt sich definitiv. War im Sommer 2019 dort.
It is one of the newest museums and very interesting. The purpose is completely different and the place is highly interesting. You can easily spend hours there and enjoy every minute of it.
Awsome, one of the best attraction in Shanghai. Wonderfull museum of Shanghai from small fishing village to modern, big, fast-growing metropolis. Floors show present and future (planning) are the most interesting. Very huge, detailed toytown. Absolutely inspiring place shows what people can design and build. Need about 2.30 h.
Unfortunately the museum is closed from 1st of December 2019 until further notice.
There was no date of reopening announced at the museums door.
The best place to spend an afternoon learning about the history of Shanghai city development from the past, the present & the future. A perfect place to nurture young children who aspire to become architects & town planners.
Do this first! Wonderful museum of Shanghai’s past and future. This museum provides information on the history of Shanghai from a small fishing village to modern day. The second floor has an excellent exhibition that is broken out by historical neighborhood. There are 12 urban preservation sites and 32 suburban preservation sites. You can learn about each one at this exhibit. This provides great context for touring as it and shares the complex history of the cities areas. Don’t miss the fourth floor microlite exhibition of the cities planned construction and growth
One of my favorite museums! I really enjoyed that once you get to exit 2 of People's Square, you start learning already! The exit is right under the museum and the museum itself was only about $5 USD for an adult. There is reduced admission for children, the elderly, and military personnel. I was here for about 3 hours by myself. I was there on a Sunday morning and it wasn't crowded, which is always awesome. The exhibits were enjoyable and I learned a lot. There were some exhibits that required a QR code, but the kiosks I went to to procure a QR code didn't dispense any. Some exhibits required a lot of reading. Of course, the highlight for most is the model of the city on the third floor. Almost everything was posted in English and Chinese. There were no temporary exhibits when I was there in August 2019. The cafe on the fifth floor leaves a lot to be desired, so I recommend bringing food if you plan on eating there; there is seating available. Highly recommended!
Amazing & Superb!
The exhibition is interesting and informative. Good for both studying and entertaining. The display design is well planned.
I like it.
Easy to get to from people square. Going inside and go to the information desk they will give you a map with Shanghai attractions. There isn't that much here I think unless youve lived in Shanghai for a while. It goes through all the districts in Shanghai but you won't really have a good background unless you've been to these places in my opinion.
Sehr empfehlenswert.
I didn’t find it very interesting. It is a dry account of the urban planning in Shanghai (as the name suggests) and not an account of Shanghai’s interesting past.
Opens Tuesday-Sunday 0900-1700
Closes on Monday
Best place to know more about the miraculous expansion and growth of Shanghai city.
An affordable visit to an interesting place which really covers how Shanghai is an ever-developing place. There is a lot to see which can be overwhelming and takes time and patience to go over everything. Interactive tasks were fun, all in all, SUPEH was good but not so great that I would recommend.
History buff should certainly visit thos museum. It includes the lengthy convoluted past, modern-day present and the future prospect of livable city. The geological and tranposrtation aspects are included as well. The highlight is the 2-D city map which shows how large the city has become.
Very interested museum+ Telling you the story of Shanghai city in timeline. Nice presentation. You may need more than 1 hours to cover all of the sections.
To know shanghai better from a city planning’s perspective, this is the best place to go. It is one of the best museums I have visited in shanghai. Very interesting place to visit.
