佳家汤包 reviews
25I should be honest saying, baozi here are ok and pretty yummy, but they are surely not the best. The place is more hyped by expats raitings, however many locals such as working people during their lunch break or folks from nearby neighborhoods come here to eat, too. This restaurant is located in the heart of Shanghai, that's why it is usually crowded.
Best xlb? Others i’ve tried in Sh tends to be sweet, but this one is the perfect combi of salty and sweet. I went there on 2020 but it’s still by far the best one i’ve ever had in my life. The cashier couldn’t understand English and menu pan is in Chinese, so be sure to prepare your translator when ordering if u can’t speak Chinese
Xiao Long Bao with crab meat are incredibly perfect ️ when I was a summer intern in Shanghai, I came here three times a week
This is one of those places that is a canonical "hole in the wall" except that it's super well known now. We went early morning (8 am) on a Thursday and there was basically no line. The menu is a couple wooden sticks on the wall and they basically only serve varieties of soup dumplings so it's an easy choice. We ordered the pork and the pork and crab. The pork was pure pork, focused on the flavor of the broth and I think there's pretty much no other ingredients. Classic XLB. The crab was very crab flavored, a rich seafoody flavor. It took about 5 minutes to order and get seated and maybe 20 minutes to get the food. Everything is made to order on the spot, so that's what takes so long. Well worth the wait though! Just don't come totally starving (just mostly starving).
This might as well be the best dumplings I have had in all my life and I have been eating these dumplings all my life. I love this, I love this place so much that I will go back to Shanghai for this place.
We come here as per recommendations at the internet as one of the best places to have classical Shanghai dumplings. The place was full of locals but having a lot of stuff so it was quite quickly. We did not have this meal before so we are not sure of other places to compare the taste but here it was. But we enjoyed it and taste was really good. Can recommend.
Amazing Food Here! The dumplings were absolutely superb, both the pork and the crab! The only issue is the line to get in.
The best xiaolongbao tried in Shanghai! Every xiaolongbao is freshly made when you order. The skin is thin, which makes the dumpling so tasty.
Highly recommend the crab soup flavour. It is amazing! Must try!
The one i ordered was crab roe xiaolongbao. Damn it was amazing. The hype people spread all around the internet was not just a rave. Very recommended as you wont find any xiaolongbao as great as it serves in Shanghai
There's a lot of people waiting in line at all times.
Plan to wait at least 30min for your turn.
This place is locally famous for crab meat + pork meat dumplings.
The food is good but i would not say that it's the best i have ever had.
Long wait. Only average to slightly below average cleanliness. Dumplings were good, but not mind blowing at all. Lots of pieces of crab shell inside ours.
Best Xiao Long Baos ever! Was there around 11am and the wait wasn't too bad. It did pick up after we left though. Tiny place with communal seating. As other reviewers said, you can ask for an English menu. Only got all pork and pork and crab. Both were delicious.
A small cafe that sells various varieties of xiao long bao (mini dumplings). They have salted egg with pork, crab and traditional pork varieties. The soup is nice too. Price is very reasonable. There usually a queue waiting for a seat. Awesome! Recommended.
What an amazing experience! I waited about 20 minutes on a Friday afternoon at 1. You can ask for an english menu when you order at the counter. Then they will seat you and you wait about 10 minutes for the food to come out. You will be seated with other customers which is fun. I did not like the pure crab dumplings but I loved the pork + crab dumplings. I would go back!
Be prepared to wait at least 30mins, but honestly wasn't bad because you can but scallion pancakes or pan fried bun across the street and eat while you wait. It's small inside, and you order before you sit. This place is not large group friendly because you sit wherever there's an empty seat so your group might get separated. The soup dumplings are really good. If you go early enough they have a sampling platter with 3 pork dumplings, 3 pork and crab dumbings, and 3 crab dumplings. They usually run out of pork dumplings by mid day. If you're curious you can also try the chicken blood soup.
Best spot in Shanghai for dumplings and great atmosphere. Thanks Jmoney for the recommendation!
We had the 特色全家福 which had 4x normal meat, 4x crab and meat, 4x meat and egg yolk xiaolongbaos. Costs 32 yuan in total. 5 yuan for soya milk and 2 yuan for shredded ginger. So good:)
There was a line up here at 7: 30am! They don’t post their hours, but I think this is around the time that they open. Thankfully I was staying at an AirBnB across the street and could see when the line ups are a little better. With that, I only had to wait 10 minutes to order.
What bugged me the most is that after I ordered, it took between 30-35 minutes for my food to arrive! I was expecting 15-20 minutes like some other people have mentioned in their review.
When I got the food, they were super tasty. But I don’t think they were much better, if at all any better, than other XLB I’ve had in the past.
My advice is.if you have time to kill and can come early, then go for it and order the pork dumplings (which seem to be the most popular and run out super early) and if not, then don’t bother wasting your day to come eat here.
The best tang bao in Shanghai! A few variety of tangbao available. You can also chose to order a mixed one like I did. The texture and the taste is awesome. Order ginger and vinegar to go with the tangbao. (unfortunately you have to pay for it).
Simple and small restaurant, not hard to find and you can easily hire a taxi to take you there.
Expect some queue at the stall at peak hours. You might get a better chance at getting a table if you go at non meal hours.
Must eat when in Shanghai!
